Many times we carry the weight of the world so well people are confused when we break down. Life has been lifeing the past few days and last night definitely didn’t help. So in true Kay fashion, I broke. Then, I had to write:
It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the common sense and empathy of a strikingly large number of Americans. America is EXACTLY who it tries so hard to pretend it’s not. The biggest favor mankind can do at this point is to just be honest. Had Trump been practically ANYONE else on this earth or beyond he would have never been elected. Policy aside, this election came down to race vs race and gender vs gender. Argue that point with anyone you’d like, it just won’t be me. I pray that I never turn a blind eye simply because an issue doesn’t directly affect myself or a loved one. My friends, DO NOT let yourselves be gaslit into believing your feelings about this outcome are not valid. No one and I mean NO ONE’s gonna downplay all the shit that came my way the last time this happened…JUST BECAUSE IT DIDN’T AFFECT YOU in the same way. Harris’ race (a person of color), her name (that ISN’T hard to say if you take the time to learn it), her ability to code switch as most people that look like me have to do, her past sexual choices, NONE of it had anything to do with her ability to lead. Yet those who constantly chose to bring it up told me that those qualities should have kept me from being in leadership positions, but guess what? They didn’t, because all of those things I named, describe myself as well and I was one of the best Supervisors in my field that you’ll ever come across. Do what you need to do to push through, then let’s start the real work of healing within a hate filled world.
